Routine Disassembly of a Headjoint
Your headjoint, similar to that below, has different parts.
To get at the parts, we start by unscrewing the crown.
With the crown set aside, we push the rest of the crown assembly through the headjoint tenon (too many headjoints have been damaged by forcing the crown assembly through the wrong end of the headjoint).
Note that the wooden tool used here has a hole to recieve the crown stem.
Now the parts of the head joint are all visible.
Disassembling the rest of the crown assembly can require forceful hands. The cork can be difficult to separate from the crown top plate. Sometimes the top plate doesn't want to move.
Now the parts of a head joint can be displayed after some cleaning.
| It should also be noted that a few further steps can be taken. In particular, the lip plate and the riser can be separated from the tube. Don't try it at home. |
